This piece calls to praise God. A moving, orchestral introduction, the majestic opening of the choir sounds. After that, this text is being questioned step by step: the Tenors and Basses call to praise, but the Sopranos and Altos ask for whom this praising should be meant. The Tenors and Basses answer: 'Praise the Lord!'. Now that the Sopranos and Altos know this, the full choir repeats this call.
Then the Alto and Soprano soloists question who should praise the Lord, the other Sopranos and Altos take over this question. The Tenors and Basses want to explain this so urgently, that chaos emerges, but slowly more clarity appears, and the Sopranos and Altos understand it as well: everyone should praise the Lord. This again ends in the majestic repeat of the opening.
Next, the Alto and Soprano soloists ask for an argumentation of the call to praise God. After the response of the Tenor soloist about Gods goodness, they again ask: "Why?". The Bass soloist adds that the truth of the Lord stays forever. These two reasons together are convincing enough: the soloists repeat the choir opening. Then the choir asks 'Why?', and the soloists respond with the earlier mentioned reasons. The choir understands this, after which the call to praise God is followed by an 'Alleluia' as ending.
